Scientology gets picked apart

I really don’t know how anyone can really think this is a religion. Scientology is, at best, a money-grubbing corporation and at worst, a cult that does serious damage to the family. Living really close to Clearwater, it is kind of unnerving knowing that their headquarters are so close by, as I’ve seen their followers out and about, trying to recruit people (I steered clear) with the whole dianetics thing.

The St. Petersburg Times did one of the best pieces I have read about the Church (if you can call it that) that, while it won’t convince anyone already in the organization just how bad it is, is eye-opening for people who have never read the details about the church.

Is it bad that before I wrote this, I worried about the Church coming after me to sue?

The revolution is being digitized

Its pretty amazing to me how things like Twitter and Facebook have such an amazing impact on the real world. In Iran, a country that has been simmering with the need for a revolution (hopefully not too violent), Facebook and Twitter are hugely key in keeping people motivated and informed on what is going on. We take for granted Internet censorship, forgetting that we are just a firewall away from being blocked out of whatever might be deemed as, in the words of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, “creating tension”. Germany is possibly facing internet censorship and could heed a lesson from all of this going on in Iran.

The people of Iran are showing what the power of technology and human freedom can do when put up against an outdated and teetering facade of control like what the ruling clerics have. Just like in the US, Generation Y and the Millenials in Iran are just as net savvy and are and will continue to be just as adapt at getting around lumbering bureaucracies. I strongly believe that my generation will be responsible for bringing about serious change to the world through the power of technology.

For my fellow generational counterparts, half a world away, I wish you the best of luck with your large rally plans and hope that justice is ultimately served. The world is watching, and pulling for you.

Can’t blog right now…theming. More soon.

Best. Scheme. Ever

So this gang in the UK, one member of which was a musician/DJ, stole a bunch of credit cards and then used them to buy said DJ’s music on itunes and Amazon, reaping thousands in profit from royalties. Of course, they got caught, but still: unnamed criminal group, I tip my hat to you for falsely inflating what was I’m sure, terrible music, and then trying to make a killing off of it. Now I wish I could find out what group it was so I could hear just how bad they were!

Republicans cry: We need more time!

Having no real filibuster power (or political capitol to use it at least), and had a total cluster-fuck of a time with the whole “she’s racist!” angle, the GOP is left with one option: whining. In this case, they are whining over needing more time to review Sonia Sotomayor’s confirmation. Now don’t get me wrong, the Democrats have used this whining tactic many times before too, but come on, you need more than a month to study this woman’s record? You don’t think that all of the conservative interest groups haven’t already done a lot of the hard work for you? Please, just confirm this woman and let’s move on. Nobody wants it tied up.
